Entrepreneur Challenge at UC San Diego

About Us

The Entrepreneur Challenge is a registered student organization at the University of California San Diego that promotes building student run and operated businesses and the commercialization of the incredible research and innovation that occurs on campus and along Torrey Pines Road.

The Entrepreneur Challenge operates on an annual cycle aligned with the academic calendar, culminating in our final event – The Business Plan Finals. To accomplish our mission, we use a building block approach:

  1. Inspire: Through our major events, where successful entrepreneurs discuss their experiences, we try to promote a startup culture and inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs.
  2. Team-Build: Through networking events we connect University of California San Diego students and Torrey Pines researchers to form well-rounded multidisciplinary founding teams.
  3. Educate: Through our workshop series we prepare teams for the rigors of due diligence and business presentations.
  4. Mentor: Through an incredible network of industry experts, we link teams with local area professors and professionals who provide timely advice as the team determines their strategy.
  5. Connect: Through our relationships with other local area programs and professionals, we are able to connect teams to the wealth of local resources within the San Diego Entrepreneur Ecosystem.
  6. Award: Thanks to our sponsors, we are able to award over $100,000 in cash and like kind prizes to the winners of our competitions which gives them both seed-funding and early publicity.

The mission of the Entrepreneur Challenge at UC San Diego is to foster community involvement and technological innovation by bringing multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and business-minded students together with local area entrepreneurs and professionals.
